Child Support Enforcement Process:
Enforcement of Child Support Orders
Noncustodial parents who do not pay child support
established by court order are subject to enforcement
measures to collect regular and past-due payments. The
Department has broad authority to collect and enforce
the payment of child support. Although, we do not take
an enforcement action on a case unless the noncustodial
parent is 30 days late in the payment of support.
Our remedies
include:
- Suspending Florida driver licenses
- Suspending other licenses such as
hunting and fishing licenses,
occupational and professional licenses
- Intercepting IRS tax refunds
- Intercepting Florida Lottery
winnings over $600, unemployment
compensation, and worker's
compensation
- Requiring employers to deduct
child support from noncustodial
parents' wages (Collecting support
through income deduction)
- Cooperating with the court in the
issuance of writs, also known as
arrest warrants, which are entered
into Florida's crime computer and used
by law enforcement officers statewide
- Placing liens on real property
(homes/land) and personal property
such as cars and boats
- Reporting the child support debt
to credit bureaus, which can affect
the noncustodial parent's credit
rating
- Placing bank account levies and
garnishments
