Child Support Enforcement Process:
Working With Other States

When custodial and noncustodial parents live in different states, the Department of Revenue works with child support offices in other states to establish and enforce support. We must allow the other state's child support enforcement office and court system to process the case within their time frames.

Recent state and federal legislation (Uniform Interstate Family Support Act) helps states pursue enforcement of child support orders across state lines in a uniform fashion. It will simplify and speedup the processing of interstate child support cases.
